Organ

A group of two or more tissues that work together to perform a common function. Examples of organs include skin, the heart, and the liver. In ancient times, organs were thought to perform distinct, independent function. Modern medicine has shown otherwise however. For a broad example, the heart pumps blood, which contains oxygen and nutrients, to every single tissue in the body. Without it, tissues would quickly run out of energy and cease functioning.
