severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID)

A disease affecting the immune system. SCID is fatal if affected individuals do not receive bone marrow transplants.

Dr. Jennifer Puck, of the National Human Genome Research Institute's Genetics and Molecular Biology Branch, defines SCID.
