Glossary Internet / Term

banner

(Or ad banner) Online advertising that typically appears as a large, wide, clickable graphic at the top or bottom of a Web page. Ad banners were first introduced by HotWired in 1995 as the first visible form of online advertising. They have since fallen out of favor with many advertisers as the novelty has worn off and click-through rates declined. See also click-through and CPM.
