Dot Pitch

The horizontal (left to right) distance between the centers of two adjacent (next to each other) phosphor triads (grouping of one red, one green and one blue phosphor) found in a direct-view video display. Dot pitch is measured in millimeters and it is preferable to have a video display with a small dot pitch. The smaller the dot pitch, the less likely you are to see individual pixels. Pixels are the small picture elements that make up an image. Each pixel in a direct-view video display contains three phosphors (a phosphor triad) in order to create a color for that pixel. Three phosphors of the three additive primary colors combine their individual colors in a pixel to create any color.
