IR (Infrared)

Light beams just beyond the visible red portion of the spectrum that are invisible to the human eye but are used in many remote control devices to transmit information and commands. IR works like other light beams in that it travels in a straight line. In order for an infrared control to operate, there must be a clear, unobstructed path between the IR emitter sending the signal and the component receiving the signal.
