MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard)

A dense construction material used to build enclosures for most speakers (especially high-end speakers). This material is tough and fairly anti-resonant providing a solid speaker enclosure. ost speakers using MDF also feature some form of internal bracing (MDF material inside the speaker cabinet placed and attached to strengthen the cabinet – a strong, inert cabinet is desirable). Additionally, most MDF cabinets are covered in some sort of wood veneer or other coating. The more expensive speaker systems may also use other exotic materials or heavy materials to provide a strong, anti-resonant cabinet (such as concrete or three-inch thick mahogany).
