Polarity

Description of an electrical circuit in which one side is positive and the other side is negative. This can be seen on batteries where one side is positive and the other is negative. They are opposite sides of the circuit resulting in the positive and negative attributes. Reversing polarity is equivalent to a 180-degree phase change (change of one half of a cycle). olarity is an important concept to follow when connecting audio components. The positive terminals of one audio component (or any electrical device) should always link up to the corresponding positive terminals on a connected component. While this is typically done for you with interconnect cables running between components at a low level signal, it is an important thing to remember when connecting speakers to amplifiers. The positive connections (typically red or sometimes white) should be joined one to another from the amplifier to the speaker, and the negative connections (typically black or sometimes blue) should be connected together.
