Ribbon Driver

Thin, narrow metallic ribbon suspended in and subject to a magnetic field with which it reacts to create motion and thus sound; typically used with tweeters where bandwidth is small and speed is of critical importance. A ribbon tweeter is quick to respond to signal changes thanks to its low mass, lightweight nature. ibbon drivers are a form of planar-magnetic speaker. They feature a metallic ribbon that vibrates instead of a dome or cone like dynamic designs. The ribbon is a thin metallic strip (metal ribbon) stretched between a pair of magnets. As a signal is applied to the ribbon, it is repulsed or attracted by the magnetic field creating motion and thus sound. ibbons are found primarily in more expensive speakers are not used to the same extent as traditional dynamic cone and dome style speaker drivers. Ribbons can have a smooth sound and very quick transient response since they can move so quickly and easily compared to other designs.
