Cornetto

A treble wind instrument made of wood. It is curved but played with a trumpet-like mouth piece. It makes a bright sound but not as loud as the modern trumpet. Its bass counterpart is trombone. The cornetto had fallen out of favour about 1650 even before the advent of the transverse flute and oboe about 1700.
