Critical Flow

The rate of a compressible fluid flow through an orifice or small opening in which the velocity of the fluid reaches a maximum and remains constant. The rate of the fluid flow is directly proportional to upstream pressure and changes only with upstream pressure. Changes in downstream pressure have a negligible effect on flow rate when critical velocity is obtained.
