Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

A noninvasive procedure for treating severe depression that involves stimulation of the brain by means of a magnetic coil.


A procedure in which magnetic pulses are applied to the brain of a living person with the goal of temporarily and safely deactivating a small brain region. TMS is used to temporarily and safely deactivate a small brain region, with the goal of testing the causal effects of the deactivation on behavior.
