Doubly Fed Induction Generator

(DFIG) The DFIG provides the operational advantages of an induction and a synchronous machine. It offers variable speed operation and the advantage of reactive power control. This is achieved by injecting appropriate currents into the rotor circuit of a wound rotor induction generator. Control of the frequency of the injected currents provides variable speed control of the machine, whereas manipulation of the magnitude and phase of the rotor currents provide power factor control.
