Glossary Wind Energy / Term

Power Quality

Utilities are committed to supplying electricity within narrow bands of frequencies and voltages and with defined low levels of harmonics to consumers: this is described as the power quality. They are thus concerned that any generating device attached to their networks should inject power of sufficiently high quality. Variable speed and stall-regulated machines will smooth over the effects of wind gusts, but the presence of power electronic converters may increase the injection of harmonics onto the network.
