Turbulence Intensity

Turbulence intensity measures the ‘roughness’ of the wind, calculated for a time series of wind speed data, as the standard deviation divided by the mean wind speed.

A measure of the strength of the turbulence of the wind compared to its underlying average speed. Defined as the standard deviation of the wind speed variations about the mean wind speed divided by the mean wind speed, using 10 minute or 1 hour averaging periods.
