Vertical Axis Wind Turbine

(VAWT) An alternative design of wind turbine where the rotor rotates about a vertical axis, rather than a horizontal one. It proved difficult to scale these designs up effectively, so modern VAWTs are of limited size; also, VAWTs are less efficient than HAWTs. As the concept of yaw is irrelevant to VAWTs; they can however be rather simpler than HAWTs.
