Pixel

Picture element; the smallest individual unit or piece of a video display image. A pixel is an individual dot in a video display. Pixels are gathered together to form a complete image. Each pixel is very small, and each has its own color and brightness attributes. he amount of pixels in a display constitutes its resolution with higher resolutions having more pixels. The greater number of pixels present in a given space the greater the resolution and the greater the quality of the image. For instance, a computer screen operating at a resolution of 480 by 640 has 307,200 pixels while a display of 768 by 1,024 has 786,432 pixels. Higher resolution, using more pixels, is preferable to lower resolution in a video display.
