International Telecommunications Union / Union International des Telecommunications - The ITU/UIT was set up in 1865 and became an United Nations agency in 1947. There are 164 member countries with equal status and voting rights. In addition there are some 300 nongovernmental bodies which take part in the work of ITU/UIT especially within the CCITT and the CCIR (Consultative Committee for International Radio)
