Portable Document Format

(PDF) A file format invented by Adobe which combines all elements in a design (text, graphics, embedded fonts, etc.) into one file that can be viewed on any computer and look very close to the original. Becoming very popular as a way to send files to a service bureau, since there is no need to include non-standard fonts as separate files on disk.
