Synonymous nucleotide change/non-synonymous nucleotide change

A change in the DNA sequence which does not result in the change in the amino acid sequence, eg, GTT>GTC both code for Valine (Val or V). A nonsynonymous change results in the coding of a different amino acid (eg, GTT>GAT results in Val>Asp).
