Vented

A vented cylinder has a vent pipe which allows the cylinder to be subjected to atmospheric pressure and it is gravity fed by a cold water storage tank (usually in the loft). Because the vented cylinder is gravity fed rather than being directly fed by the mains supply like an unvented cylinder, the vented system typically has a lower pressure and sometimes requires an additional pump to ensure a strong flow of water both for the domestic hot water and heating.
