Cassata all'abruzzese

(quas at) This spectacular cake was born in Sicily, where it took its name from a deep, rounded bowl called quas at in Arabic (Sicily was under Arab rule for many centuries and a number of its sweets were elaborated in the pastry shops of convents after the Normans conquered the island).
