Direct Radiating Speaker

Type of speaker that creates and outputs sound from only one side of the enclosure with that side aimed at the listening position. Direct radiating speakers are the most common form of speaker. They use speaker drivers grouped together on one side of the cabinet. he direct radiating design contrasts to dipolar and bipolar speakers, which use pairs of drivers located on opposite sides of the cabinet (they may also use a single type of driver, namely an electrostatic or planar-magnetic element, that radiates sound from both sides with the cabinet open in front and back). Direct radiating speakers typically do not offer as wide a sound stage as dipolar or bipolar speakers, but they have a greater degree of directivity and imaging making them able to more precisely place sounds in the sound field. However, direct radiators also tend to have a smaller sweet spot or prime listening position. irect radiating speakers are frequently used for stereo left and right front speakers. They are used almost exclusively for center channel speakers and subwoofers. On the other hand, dipolar and bipolar speakers are popular in the role of surround speakers thanks to their broad, less localizable sound that tends to fill a space without drawing attention to the speakers.
