Dolby 3 Channel

A pseudo form of surround sound somewhere between stereo two-speaker operation and a full surround sound set-up with surround sound speakers in the rear; Dolby 3-channel uses the front speakers only – the front left, front center, and front right speakers. There are no surround sound signals sent to surround speakers mounted to the sides or behind the listener. For movies and television encoded with surround sound, Dolby 3-channel sound loses the total effect but does anchor dialogue to the screen through the use of the center channel speaker. he center channel in a surround sound system primarily reproduces voices and sounds occurring directly on screen. The use of a center channel can clear up the dialog and anchor it to the screen where the actors are. Dolby-3 channel sound takes advantage of the center channel but does not make use of the surround speakers, which are typically used for adding ambience, a sense of depth and “you-are-there” feel.
