Term used to describe a complete audio/video system consisting of a video display, at least one video source, and surround sound (left and right front speakers and left and right rear speakers most often also having a front center speaker) designed to bring the movie theater experience into the home. Most home theaters also include a center channel speaker, and increasingly subwoofers are being integrated for a more moving experience. Home theater elevates the home movie viewing experience from watching images on a small television with poor sound quality to experiencing the movie on a large screen in full surround sound. A well-designed home theater places viewers in the middle of the action with good quality video and sound quality that rivals or surpasses that of most movie theaters.
