Three Way Speaker

Speaker system with three or more individual drivers covering three frequency sections or bands. Each frequency band may have more than one driver dedicated to it (many THX certified speakers for instance use multiple tweeters even though the tweeters cover the same area of the audible frequency spectrum). A three-way speaker system usually consists of a woofer section, a midrange section, and a tweeter or high frequency section. Three-way systems, along with two-way systems, are the most common. Most three-way systems are floorstanding models, although there are some three-way bookshelf and in-wall speakers.
