Vertical Blanking Interval (VBI)

The portion of the video signal during which the picture nformation is suppressed at the end of the field; it is provided to allow the scanning beam in a CRT to return from the bottom to the top of the picture; in the standard NTSC video format, it includes the first 21 horizontal lines of each field.
