Video Noise Bandwidth Factor

The video noise bandwidth factor is a reflection of the bandwidth of the video filter within a satellite receiver. It is normally set equal to the same value as the baseband video frequency. 4.2 MHz and 5.5 MHz are used for NTSC and PAL formatted broadcasts. If the maximum baseband video filter is set at a value greater than the baseband video frequency, the S/N ratio would be reduced since additional noise would enter the system. If this factor is much below the baseband video frequency, the video signal is low-pass filtered resulting in poor resolution, streaking and smearing of colors, delays in the color signal and other related problems.
