Videocipher

An encryption (scrambling) and de-cryption system technology developed in the U.S. in the mid 1980's for signals broadcast via satellite. Adopted by U.S. premium cable services (ie. HBO, ESPN, etc.) to control distribution of their signal to cable operators and direct-to-home satellite dish owners.
