Pleistocene Period

The period following the Pliocene period, extending from 2,000,0000-10,000 years BP. In Europe and North America, there is evidence of four or five periods of intense cold during this period, when large areas of the land surface were covered by ice - glacial periods. During the interglacial periods, the climate ameliorated and the glaciers retreated.
